Why this is an estimate
Wood is not a manufactured block with one exact density. The same species can vary from tree to tree, board to board and even from one end of a board to the other. Moisture can change the weight considerably.
Formula
Weight = volume × estimated density × moisture adjustment

- Using nominal dimensions instead of the board's actual size.
- Ignoring moisture.
- Assuming every board of one species weighs the same.
- Using this as a shipping weight without adding packaging and hardware.
